First off, we have Maybelle.  She’s one of the cutest Pugs I have photographed and graced Diablo Magazine last year in their pet issue.  Looks like she has been eating some bon bons since I last saw her.  You and me both, sista.  We need to high tail it to the gym.  I don’t think she won the costume contest.  The skinny girls always beat out us curvy girls.

Then of course, there was the Aussie,  Ginger.  Apparently her owner claims she knows my name.  When she says  “Pam Biasotti” Ginger does this thing with her head and curls her lip like Elvis.  Then she smiles and says “hi”.  I have heard this on the phone, it’s true.  It’s a breathy “hi.”  She can also say “I love you”.  Why they haven’t gone to David Letterman for stupid pet tricks is a mystery to me.

Zoe.  A yellow Labrador.  We managed to get many smiles, many looks.

This one is just like the portraits you see college seniors pose for in the late 70′s, early 80′s.    There are probably chain studios that still offer this kind of pose for women.  Won’t name any names but their initials start with O and end with M.  Just sayin’.

Which brings me to these two.  I told them my Bulldog Shih Tzu joke which cracked up some Pugs and some Boxers in the past, but these two German Shepherds didn’t GET IT.  Maybe it’s a language thing.  Look at their reaction to the joke

So, I started talking about Hogan’s Heroes and they relaxed right up.  Total icebreaker.

Finally, going to show you a lovely Pit mix who had a marvelous time with me.  Don’t judge a Pit by it’s cover.   They can be delightful dogs.

I recently returned from a quick trip to my old hometown, St. Louis.  I took my teenager along with me to see where I grew up and experience the difference between the Midwest versus the West.  We managed to catch the Cardinals beat the Dodgers, took in the St. Louis Zoo and made it to the top of the Gateway Arch.  I had a lot of great memories come back to me that weekend.  I also was able to hang out with two colleagues who are fantastic St.Louis and Chicago photographers.  Lauri Baker was doing a family session for Marianne Drenthe and I was just kind of along for the ride.  I took the goofy shots because that’s just what I do.

When I actually tried to be serious I occasionally would get this from Mare’s little sweetie Lauren.

Maddie was a little bit harder to capture.  Still digging and playing with photos of her.  You know what they say, photographer’s children are always the hardest to photograph.  Lauri was so hospitable. Thank you for all your generosity and for spending time with us.  And to the Drenthe family–you were all a joy to hang out with as well!

Should be a nice night for First Wednesday!  I am debating whether or not I should bring Karma down.  She has a cute festive Fourth of July collar I want to show off, but will I be able to entertain my puppy for 3 plus hours?  Please bring your dog or family by and say hi!  You can find out more about First Wednesday here.
