Sneak Peak San Diego Pet Mini Sessions-Pam Biasotti Dog Photography

What a whirlwind weekend!! Friday afternoon I flew down to San Diego and Saturday I photographed 28 dogs and 2 cats within 5 hours! It was non stop chaos and I loved every minute of it!!! Tuscan Willow Pet Boutique held their charity photo shoot for the San Diego Humane Society and we raised approximately $175 in donations from the folks that came by to have their dogs (and cats) photographed by me. The event ran so smoothly I can’t believe how well we survived the coming and going of so many lovely canines. Kelly Ozaki is a fantastic event planner and executed it flawlessly. Thanks to Kelly’s business partners Lori and Lisa as well for all the hard work and support.
San Diego is such a dog friendly town–I miss Southern California sometimes.  Shortly after the event was over Kelly and I had a plane to catch back up to the Bay Area for a special 90th birthday party.  More sneak peaks to come!

San Francisco Baby Photographer-Pam Biasotti

Yesterday (well now it’s more than yesterday since it’s the early morning hours right now) I traveled to San Francisco to photograph a family and their beloved toy poodle.  The mom and dad are proud parents of a 7 month old baby boy, S.  This little guy has the biggest brown eyes and happiest face you would ever want to meet.  I promised a few sneak peaks before I get swamped this week.  First we have Mr. Adorable…

Mom and Dad are crazy about their son.

One of the whole family.  It was a challenge to get Toby the dog sitting pretty with baby S.  While I managed to get Toby’s attention, S. thought his hand tasted pretty good.

It was Fleet Week in the City.  Loud planes rumbling back and forth.  My clients were only a short walk away from Alamo Square and we thought it would be fun to capture some shots of the Painted Ladies while watching the Blue Angels buzz by near us.  Unfortunately S. fell asleep on the way up to the park, so Toby decided to strut his stuff and pose.

Thank you B. Family for the nice time together.  I always love a beautiful day in San Francisco.

Selective Coloring

I am against it.  You won’t find me doing that.  I think it’s cheesy.  Whether it’s cheesy or not if you only knew what this dog’s eyes were like–so amber and beautiful.   Each time  we held eye contact it was like she was reading my mind.  I just wanted to convey what spending three days was like with this sweet dog last week.  Best memory of this dog was watching her endlessly chase her tail over and over and over.  Cracked me up.

Dog-gone good time with the Cowbelly Pet Photographer Jamie Pflughoeft

I am playing catch up this week!  I have many blog posts to show and things to talk about but I wanted to shout out to Jamie from Cowbelly Pet Photography and thank her for her hospitality and workshop!  There are many workshops out there for photographers to attend but I felt that this one was something I was very interested in as far as investing my time.  I have been fascinated by how Jamie runs her business and her success as a pet photographer was shared last weekend in her hometown of Seattle Washington.  It was a long long long weekend but I walked away with some new friends and colleagues.   The weather was typical Seattle unpredictable, but we made the most of what we could and spent a little time with some of her Pug clients, Charlie and Seymour.  I haven’t had a chance to edit them all, but I wanted to share some cuteness with you so you can see why I love dogs so much.  These were some of the best behaved little dudes I have come across in a long time and it just reinforces what some good obedience training can do for you.  We as pet owners are responsible for making our animals good canine citizens.  No one else is–meaning it’s up to us to train them well and love them up.  The more training you can invest in your dog, the happier you will be, the happier he/she will be and the happier other canines will be.  Trust me–obedience training NEVER stops.  Even though Riley is 9 we do our daily obedience exercises in heeling, sitting, staying, recalling, sits and downs, stand for exam, you name it.  I told you I was going to get a CD on this boy someday and I am!

So, Jamie, thank you for spending time sharing your knowledge and skills with me and the others.  I had a nice weekend away from the hetic work schedule I have waiting for me here.  I have a lot to think about and look forward to taking my pet photography to the next level.  I loved your dog Fergie–she has so much spunk and attitude.

2 of my favorites so far from last weekend

Happy Belated Birthday to Me

My mistress Pam has been neglecting me lately.  I know I told you that I would be posting more dog thoughts and yet Pam hasn’t allowed me to touch her computer lately because she’s so busy working all the time on it.  Sometimes she is helping this person install blogs.  Other times she is editing her portrait sessions for children and dogs.  She totally missed wishing me a happy birthday last month!  August 31 I turned 9 years old.  I don’t recall any big fuss made over my birthday–maybe Pam let me sleep a little later than usual and not feeding me right away that morning.  There was no birthday cake or party hats.  Just the typical love and pats on the head.  I think she might have gotten me a dog toy or something, but honestly when one of those toys are placed in front of me I devour it in a matter of seconds.

9 years.  I remember when I came home to live here.  I was around 8 weeks of age and kind of scared.  I was placed in the kitchen which had some kind of baby gates going across each end.  Pam was standing at the sink, doing the dinner dishes and I walked up to her and lay on her feet while she cleaned the sink.  My instinct told me she was going to be my mistress and alpha.  There was another Golden already living there. His name was Paddy and he seemed indifferent that I was there.  He seemed miserable because he had hip dysplasia.  Being an obnoxious puppy, all I wanted to do was wrestle with him and play.

So, Pam, it’s okay that you didn’t acknowledge me on my birthday.  I understand you have other things on your mind like customer service to your clients and booking your holiday mini sessions.  It’s okay.  I know you love me more than anything and it’s just a treat to be your dog.  Thank you for letting me jump up on your bed in my old age.  Thank you for walking me every day to school to drop off your son.  Thank you for all those extra carrots and apple slices.  Oh and I am sorry about the other night when your teenager left his Hot Pocket sandwich on the table while taking out the trash.  I admit to opening the screen door with my nose and letting myself in to snatch it off the table.  I guess that was my belated birthday present.

“Abby Road”-Sunol-Pam Biasotti Dog Photographer

Not quite the Beatles’ Abbey Road, is it?  I didn’t think so.

Abby requires quite a bit of exercise and eventually she becomes more mellow.  The funniest thing is watching her stick her head out of her owner Liz’ car window while driving.  I didn’t get a chance to capture that funny sight but I did manage to capture her at Sunol Regional Wilderness park playing with her mom.

I believe she is Portguese Water dog but Liz thinks she might have something in addition to that in her breeding.  Abby has been featured in the local magazine Bay Woof and can be seen around pulling Liz on a scooter.  That’s a working dog in action!

Whatcha doing to Liz, there, Abby?  Looks a little painful!  Oh, you are just being silly I see.

She’s actually laughing at me.  Seriously. The dog is laughing at me.

Abby is mastering her sit and stay skills here on the wagon wheel seat.  She did excellent!!!

Water Dog-Pleasanton-Pam Biasotti Photography

This is Paris, and being the Labrador Retriever that she is, she loves water.  She’s energetic and playful.

One of the few eye contact moments we had with one another.  She was into her toys.

Paris loved her swimming pool.  She had no problem jumping right in and going after her toy.  Another eye contact moment.  I must have had a treat over my head or something…

Watch out, she’s shaking off the excess water!  Remind oneself to never stand next to a wet dog with your beloved Canon 1D Mark 3 as a dog emerges from a pool of water.  Zoom lenses are probably a good idea.

All that exercise has made Paris thirsty.  At least she isn’t lapping up the pool water to quench her thirst.  That would be kinda of gross.

And here is why I am glad she doesn’t drink from the pool….

Um yeah.  Instead of blaming young children for using the pool, how about blaming the dogs instead when they gotta go?  I won’t be dipping into that swimming pool anytime soon no matter how much chlorine is used in it!!!

Time to check up on the puppies!

At this visit, the pups were 6 weeks old and acting crazy. Meaning, I had 13 little guys and girls climbing all over me and my camera. I was kissed, nibbled, scratched (not on purpose) and basically destroyed by the end of the meeting. All the puppies except two females had homes waiting for them when they became old enough to leave.

Riley is going to be 9 next week. That’s a senior Golden age, and we lost Paddy at 10 so I often begin to watch for signs of age in Riley. He’s an old man lately. If I open the fridge and as much touch a package of cheese he does snap up and come running though.

Here’s some snapshots of the puppies. Two litters by the way. Can you imagine 13 puppies coming out of one dog? I don’t think so!

First off, let’s study the gait on these babies. Since their breeder (Riley’s breeder in fact) shows her dogs, I imagine gait is very important.

How well does a puppy respond to being touched and held, etc? This one seemed to be fine with it.

Often dogs that aren’t conformation quality still compete in obedience trials and agility trials. This is Miss Raspberry collar, showing us (with a doggie smile I might add) what she thinks of the tire. I secretly wanted to tuck her into my camera bag and take her home. Resist! Resist! Think about something else, Pammy.

Here’s the other girl I coveted. She was Miss Orange collar and sassy. Next Golden I get I want to be a girl this time. I have mentioned that I live in a home of Y chromosomes and am tired of all the testosterone. I am tired of cleaning up the bathroom floors. Why does my kids’ bathroom remind me of a mens’ room at Dodger Stadium? Ummm…don’t ask me how I know what a mens’ room smells like at Dodger Stadium.

After much wrestling and soon losing interest in me, the puppies became bored.

They all started getting tired.

I plan to visit these lovers at least once more before they leave for their new homes.

Dog Days of Summer Pleasanton

The Pleasanton Downtown Association has its annual Dog Days of Summer parade. My chance to be amongst canines of all kinds. Getting down on the ground is the best way to capture the expressions and details. The only problem is they all came running to the camera and licked my face, my lens, my camera. I was slimed many times over. When I made it home last night Riley knew I was cheating behind his back and sniffed my clothes for a long time. Here are a few edits from the parade.

Dogs and Babies, Dogs and Babies

Apparently I am getting more and more of the combination together which I enjoy. We just returned from Southern California for a little downtime after the “termination” of my IT career. Sara Evans was playing at the Ventura County fair and my husband is a huge fan. Me, not so much but I admit she’s a good singer. We also stopped off in Camarillo to grab a few shots of this little miracle girl and her siblings. I hope her parents don’t mind me sharing the story with you–well actually Dad gave me permission (but I was hoping Mom would speak up.) :)

I just want to say that it’s never too late to have the family you always dreamed of having. No matter how your child comes to you, the opportunity to parent a child is by far one of the most rewarding lifetime experiences. S and R tried for many years to conceive a child on their own and finally adopted their first child, a boy. M came along and guess what happened one month later? R found out she was pregnant! At the age of 40 she delivered a brother to 10 month old M.

It gets even better! We received a call a few months ago that a happy surprise was coming. R was expecting another child–a girl–at 45. Congrats to the family and to her big brothers M and M. Ha ha…sounds like a candy plug doesn’t it?

By the way, Maggie is the new family dog. Sweet addition to an already full house!
