Post Christmas experiment.

Not really an experiment. Just a few moments of procrastinating (you know, laundry, cleaning up the kitchen, etc.) last evening led me to play with my camera in a way I don’t seem to do enough of lately. Light tracing is a fun way to capture motion. We have a rotating pre-lit Xmas tree and while I was sitting on the floor, petting Riley, my faithful Golden, I thought about how pretty the tree was. Not wanting another typical Xmas tree photo, I grabbed my camera and started shooting at different angles and long exposures. Here are a few that I came up with that I liked.

Four under the age of Five

4, 2 and twin boys. WHEW!!! I am finishing up this session for their parents. The eldest daughter was not camera shy at all. The twins were adorable too! The 2 year old just took me a little longer to warm up to the lens.

Welcome baby S

Baby S’s parents were maternity clients first. They had gorgeous natural light in their home and we had a wonderful session. Their chemistry was beautiful. Here’s a few from the newborn session.

Just to show her

That I am still working on finishing these. I won’t say when these were taken this year but her baby (cough cough) is about to graduate high school. Not really. Taken in Ouahu. We attempted several sessions all around the island. This was taken at the Federal building downtown. (Hawaii 5-O is out on DVD now…seasons one and two….funny as #$% watching Jack Lord’s perfect hairdo not get messed up. Love it when we recognize places that we were on the island.) The light was amazing. Shooting in full sun was unbelievably wonderful. I can’t even get that kind of lighting here in Northern California at the beaches.

Easygoing Family Fun

I have known this family since I moved to the Bay Area in 1989. Through mutal friends, softball and being UC Santa Barbara alumni we have really enjoyed our times together. We were pregnant together. I have had the pleasure of watching the twins grow from preemie 1 and 2 pound babies to delightful pre-teenagers. Recently we had the pleasure of watching our college buddy get married for the first time. I won’t get too far into details, but Mr. T in the photo below was kind enough to introduce me to McClellan’s Scotch. We were all in such a celebratory mood that evening–I haven’t touched it since. They decided they wanted some photographs of their family and hired me to capture them. I wasn’t sure what I had in mind–I wanted something that captured the late fall colors as well as something that said Northern California. First we hit Ruby Hills’ Country Club but it was evident that we needed something more rustic. So, they followed me in their car around Pleasanton and Livermore until I took a turn down a road with endless vineyards. I found the spot and we began shooting. That’s where it happened. This is one of my favorites from the session.

Lots of newborns these past few months

Such a fun time for me when a parent of a newborn contacts me for a session. I love to capture them under the age of 12 days if possible. They still have that fresh new look, lots of wrinkles and fold so easily.img_blogbw3212-copy.jpgimg_blogbw1606.jpgimg_blogbw5045-copy.jpgimg_blog4062.jpg

Speaking of Half Moon Bay

Actually this was taken about 8 miles up the coast at a favorite beach of mine. This client has been a returning client for the past three years. She’s very kind and a wonderful mom to her son.
